READING SURVEY
How do you prefer to read books?
How often do you read?
Authors, would you like to know your readers’ habits?
Readers, would you please participate in a quick survey?
I’ll leave the survey up indefinitely, so anyone who finds it can take it. Just look at the top of my blog anytime you wish to find it (look for the Surveys button).
Here are the original survey questions:
You’ll see the results after you answer each question. Select the best answer.
Please take the survey.
And tell your friends.
And spread the word.
Authors everywhere will LOVE you for it. ๐
After you vote, you can even share a specific question with Facebook and Twitter. Or you can share the post itself (with all questions included).

Attention Readers!!!!!!! Here is your chance to let authors know your preferences. Quick polls. It’s important.
Thank you. ๐

Please participate in this survey about reading habits.
Just for the sake of information: I have a Nook, which I like, but I prefer paperbacks. However, I use the Nook at the gym, and in that setting, I definitely prefer an e-reader. I’ve also noticed that I almost NEVER finish a Kindle book, because I hate reading on my computer, but don’t have a device for Kindle. All I have is an older model i-Phone, and that’s just way too tiny for serious reading. It has nothing to do with not wanting to finish the book, but I’m just not as inclined to “eat it up” if I’m reading off a computer screen.
Thank you for sharing your experience with reading. Actual feedback from readers is valuable. ๐

Signal Boost, as it were. ๐
Every share is much appreciated. ๐ Thank you.
So far the results are interesting. I wonder if the majority will still rule at the end of this survey.
I’m certainly curious. ๐
I read on my iPad, but use the Kindle app instead of Apple’s iStore.
Thank you for sharing how you read. ๐

Readers, writers need your feedback. Take a few secs to run through the survey.
Thank you. ๐
My pleasure! This was interesting ๐
I’m like Sue. I use my iPad exclusively, but usually with the Kindle app.
Thank you for sharing how you read. ๐
I read exclusively on my Kindle Paperwhite. AND if you read with it in airplane mode, the battery charge seems to last forever.
Thank you for sharing that. I also read with a Paperwhite. ๐
I prefer the feel of paperbacks, but will read ebooks on my Kindle for Mac. Interesting poll!
Thank you for providing feedback. I wish this poll had the option to select 2 answers. ๐
I despise reading books on any screen of any kind. I find it distracting. I like having a physical book in my hands and I prefer paperbacks but if the book I want is only available in hardcover then I will still get the hardcover.
Thank you for providing feedback. These comments are just as helpful as the polls, imho. ๐
Great survey Chris, I’m an avid reader on both my very old style kindle and paperback, I like to mix them up, I read way over 5 books a month because I love reading, I’m a big supporter of the indies, self-published and small publishing houses.
Thank you, Rosie, for being such a big supporter. And avid reader. ๐

READERS – Go over to Chris’ blog to register YOUR preferences – It’s IMPORTANT ๐
Thank you, Chris. ๐
Welcome Chris – hope you get a good poll feedback ๐
I’ve stuffed up on the first question. I use an iPad AND a Kindle keyboard so I’ve put other because us multi platform users aren’t covered.
Cheers
MTM
That’s my one regret with this survey: that you couldn’t select two answers. Thank you for clarifying in the comments. That’s helpful, too. ๐
A pleasure. ๐
I had the same probloem. Can we vote twice?
If you wait one week or if you can open the survey without it recognizing you, then your second vote should count..
I tried again and it took it straight away. Maybe it didn’t see through my disguise. ๐
Glad to hear that. ๐
I read books on my Paperwhite, but I also read hard and softcover books. It depends where I am, my schedule, etc. If I’m very busy, for example, I don’t take out library books, but when I have more time to read, then I do. So I couldn’t answer that question.
Also, my children are grown, so I didn’t answer that question either. ๐
That question really needed to allow 2 answers; sorry about that. Thank you for answering it in the comments instead. That helps, too. ๐
I’m glad the comments were helpful.
(I’m a freelance test writer, so hope it didn’t sound too critical, I was just explaining. ) ๐
Feedback is critical. In a good way. ๐

I just took this survey and I was [pleasantly] surprised by the results. It’s all about us, and our reading habits. Enjoy. ๐
The results surprised me quite a bit. I’m glad I asked. And appreciative that my little survey has received much support, like your reblog. Thank you. ๐
I truly hope this goes viral – Indies need all the help they can get.
Thanks for some interesting insight. Lots of readers out there, but not many using Kindle Unlimited. No surprises with the ebook market leader. I look forward to hearing about the final stats.
I will let the survey run indefinitely, though at some point in the near future, when the stats taper off, I’ll post the initial results. So far, several of the polls have surprised me.
The surprises are what make the exercise worthwhile. Thanks.
Nice post! Though I will say I answered zero on the kids question simply because I don’t have any kids. But I would encourage them to read often if I did.
I guess I should have included another option in the answers. ๐ Thank you for clarifying in the comments.
That’s ok. Live and learn! ๐
Thank you. Very interesting โboth as a reader and as an writer!
You’re welcome. I’m intrigued, too, and surprised by some of the results. ๐
I find it VERY HARD to read e-books, I do not possess an Ipad or similar devices, I always prefer paperback and I really get dissapointed when someone I really want to read only offers an e-book option for purchasing.
That’s an important pointโbooks only available in one format. Thank you for raising this point in the comments, and for providing feedback on how you read. ๐
Interesting survey. It tells me a lot about readers.

This is a survey for both readers and writers to participate in. I found it very interesting, as a writer, what the majority of readers like.
Thank you. ๐

Chris, great survey! I’m a paperback reader and have just started reading Indie authors (blog friends). A physical book is worth the purchase…and a bookcase full of books is a beautiful sight! Christine
Thank you for sharing your reading experience. I admit I love seeing a personal library of physical books. ๐
I don’t exclusively buy books at any of the places you have listed. Besides Amazon I get books at Smashwords, Gutenberg and Google play.
Unfortunately, the survey only offered the opportunity for a best answer; I regret not having the option to select multiple choices. Thank you for clarifying in the comments. That’s the next best thing. ๐

Cool to take part in this survey! I love reading ๐ I see that most people are getting their reads from Amazon.
