This happens at our house, but they are in the same room.
I should have had my phone on video instead of camera because a short while later the dog tried to bite the cat, only to discover what a window was. 🙂

This picture made me chuckle… Your follow up comment made me guffaw 🙂
I was surprised. This was the gentlest dog I’ve ever seen. I’d never even heard him bark before. 🙂
We had a rescue dog that didn’t bark. We thought it was ace. Then he found his voice (and keeps my kids awake!) We got a dog psychologist who told us he’d been too traumatised to bark before and now he was settled he wasn’t scared to talk!
(Not suggesting your dog is traumatised, just that your comment brought this random thought to my mind so I thought I’d share it!)
You may be right. It’s the neighbor’s dog. He showed up in their backyard one day, and may have had a troubled past. I guess the cat motivated him to finally speak. 🙂
Well that’s probably a good thing then!

Dog: Me dog. You cat. Me scare you.
Cat: Yawn.
Dog: Ruff.
Cat: Yawn.
Dog: Me bite you.
Cat: Yawn.
Dog tries to bite cat. Bites window instead.
Cat: Yawn.
I had imagined something more complex…You just might not have the brightest pets but that’s okay. Every creature needs to be loved by someone 🙂
Perhaps they are geniuses, but the problem lies with the interpreter. 🙂

I personally think our pets are really the cream if the crop when it comes to brilliant minds. It is the parents that are missing a few screws. 😉
When it comes to “Who’s the boss?” our cat definitely outsmarts me. 🙂
