Showing All Zeroes
It’s now possible to see all zeroes across your month-to-date Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) sales report.
In the past, if you didn’t have any sales, returns, or borrows for a title, that title simply wouldn’t show up on your month-to-date report.
Things have changed with the introduction of the new KDP sales dashboard.
You may observe a discrepancy between your KDP sales dashboard and the KDP month-to-date report.
Why?
Evidently, when a customer buys the book, the sale shows in your sales dashboard, but the sale doesn’t show up in your month-to-date report until the payment is processed. There can be a significant delay.
As a result, something strange can now happen.
If a title that hasn’t yet sold in the current month suddenly sells, the order shows up on your sales dashboard and a string of zeroes shows up on your month-to-date report for that book at KDP.
You’ll see a zero for sales, returns, borrows, and freebies when this happens.
Eventually, once the payment is processed, one of the zeroes will change to indicate the sale.
It would have been interesting to notice this for the first time today, on Friday the 13th (with a full moon, even). 🙂

That’s really interesting. I’m not self-pubbed, but published with a small press so I can’t check my own Kindle sales. Today I was on my book page on Amazon and noticed that my Amazon Best Seller rank was much better today than it normally is. Curious I messaged my publisher to ask if they’d been an upturn in sales. She informed to the negative, but your post makes me wonder if I did in fact sell more books today, but that they haven’t been processed yet. Hope I’m right!
That’s possible. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on your sales rank and compare with their reporting. I hope you did get a good boost. 🙂
I’ve given up on trying to figure any of that out because as soon as I get the hang of it some changes again. I’m too trusting its all on the up and up!;)
Not becoming a stat junkie has its benefits. 🙂
It’s been happening for the last two months with my sales. I freaked the first time I saw it, because it was the first of the month and I had 7 books pop up with zeroes, but in a few hours they were all sales. Thankfully.

Now we know those zeroes are a sign of things to come.
But it is nerve-wracking until you get them turned into numbers!
HI! I’ve nominated you on WeeBitWordy.wordpress.com for a Liebster Award! For the Rules and what to do, go to my page for the post! 😀
